DECA has started its activities for this school year. Currently, DECA members are studying for the district-level DECA competition, which is scheduled for Jan. 11.

DECA competitions consist of several students competing in various events pertaining to business. Students who perform well at the district-level competition may advance to the state-level, and further, the international-level competitions.

Daniel Hao, DECA member and junior, said he wants to compete in a two-person event about business, law and ethics. He said he is excited to learn more about the topic in preparation for competitions.

“Business has always been interesting to me,” Hao said.

Last year, CHS’s DECA team won third-place at the state competition, but DECA co-sponsor Richard Reid said he has higher hopes for this year.

“Our goal this year is to win first in state,” Reid said. “I think we have all the talent, we just need to make sure we put the pieces in the right place.”
