This Monday, March 10, CHS’s television station, CHTV, won best in state at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB), along with many other awards. According to CHTV Director Courtney Qualls, the title is very important to the CHTV staff.

Some other individual awards won by CHTV students include first place for News Anchor Live (won by John Perkins), first place for Short Film (won by Danny Yount) and Short Film (won by Sophie Kelner).

CHTV member and senior Caroline Hitchcock came in second place for best News Package.

“A lot of the CHTV staff members went to the University of Indianapolis for the awards. There were almost 800 kids there. We could all submit our work to different categories to see if we would win,” Hitchcock said.

According to Hitchcock, this was the first year at the IASB awards in which Carmel High School won in both the radio and television categories.

“It’s pretty remarkable. It’s the first time that any school has ever done that in the history of IASB, so that was pretty exciting,” Hitchcock said.

CHTV will continue to stride towards success, according to Qualls.

“This is my first year teaching here, so the fact that we won provides testament to how amazing these students are and how hard they work. In the future, we want to keep doing the amazing work that we do, and hopefully we’ll continue to get recognized,” Qualls said.
