On Saturday Oct. 1 the state finals concluded with Hamilton Southeastern finishing in first place with an overall team score of 644. Carmel finished in ninth place with senior Briana Midkiff leading the way with a team high score of 165.
Coach Ken Kelly said that his team didn’t play up to par on Saturday. “We didn’t play our best. We struggled with putting and took big numbers on a few holes that took us out of contention for a medal,” he said.
Despite the poor performance on Saturday, the Carmel girl’s golf team has had a successful season with many bright spots. “Great season, we were MIC Champions, Sectional Champions, Regional Champions and set a school record for 18 holes. We were a young team and gained a great deal of experience this season that will be great to build from next year,” Kelly said.
Sophomore Sophia Kelner should be able to step up and help fill the gap that senior Brianna Midkiff will leave.
