Men’s soccer team moves on to face Zionsville in the Sectional Finals.

The men’s varsity soccer team huddles before its Sectional Semifinal game against Lebanon. The Hounds arose victorious as they defeated Lebanon 3-0.

Looking to continue its success, the men’s varsity soccer team hopes to find its second post-season win as it travels to Lebanon on Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Zionsville for the Sectional Finals. The Hounds tied with Zionsville 1-1 earlier this season on Aug. 25. The team reaches the Sectional Finals following its 3-0 Sectional Semifinals victory over Lebanon on Oct. 3. Junior Evan Morris scored the first goal when he kicked the ball just past the goalie on a breakaway. The second goal came from sophomore Janum Sailor as he volleyed in a cross-off of a free kick. The third and game-clinching goal was scored by captain and junior Trevor Sarsfield as he volleyed in a cross.

“This victory means a lot to everyone involved with the program,” Head Coach Shane Schmidt said. “We live to play another day and continue to move on toward our goal of a state championship.”

Captain and senior David Capone said that with this first win, the team is beginning to believe.

“It is a huge confidence booster,” Capone said. “Everyone is so excited at practice and is just so hyped up and ready to go for the next one. The team just really is starting to believe that we might have something special this year.”

In preparation for its game against Zionsville, Schmidt said the team is not doing anything special.

“We will have the same game plan that we always do,” Schmidt said. “We will prepare for this game the same way we have all season long. It is just another game that gives us the opportunity to continue our season.”
