Co-president and senior Kevin Mi makes plans for the upcoming meeting. “It’s really good to come out and play chess against other intellectual minds,” he said.
There was no Chess Club meeting on Oct. 20 because of fall break. Despite that, regular meetings will resume starting Monday. Chess Club welcomes new students to join the club. According to sponsor Margaret Winans, Chess Club meets every Monday after school until 4 p.m. when late bus passes are provided or until 4:30 p.m. in Room F103.
Regardless of chess experience, everyone is encouraged to attend and play both recreationally and competitively against one another.
Chess Club attendance is optional and is not recorded.
“At Chess Club, we train for the state final,” club co-president and senior Kevin Mi said. “For the past three years we’ve been the state champions.”
Co-president and sophomore Sam Philleo promotes going to Chess Club. “It’s really enjoyable just to play and learn how to improve in chess,” he said.
