In the past month, Key Club members worked alongside Cherry Tree Elementary School students, helping them prepare for their science fair by planning displays and gathering research. On Feb. 5, club members will finish their work with the Cherry Tree students at the science fair from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Students assisting with this event will run participant check-in, judge the displays and score the participants. Running check-in, judging and scoring will not count for double volunteer hours. Club members who plan on going to the science fair should meet at the Cherry Tree cafeteria or gym before 5:30 p.m.

Ben Sun, Key Club member and sophomore, plans to judge science projects. “I want to judge because I’m interested in seeing the different and unique projects that the elementary kids can come up with,” he said.

“Volunteering at carnivals and things like the science fair, where you get to interact with younger students, is a great way to start getting volunteer hours. The kids really enjoy it, and I’m sure the Key Club members do as well,” sponsor Jill Grimes said.

Club members can also sign up to participate in Northview Church’s Family Experience on Feb. 20 from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Volunteers will act in skits based off the Bible and play carnival-style games and sports with participating children and parents. Students who wish to volunteer for the Family Experience can sign up at the next Key Club meeting on Feb. 5 or through the link on the club’s website.
