Ben Krueger, vice president and senior, installs Windows 7 on a used computer. According to Krueger, this step is part of the refurbishing process.
The next Computer Building Club meeting will take place on March 30. Computer Building Club members meet every Monday in F104 to repurpose old computers that are later distributed by NetLiteracy, a non-profit organization.
Nathan Fei, Computer Building Club member and sophomore, said, “We usually just look at the computers, and we fix them usually by doing routine checkups like pulling out fire wire and checking if the RAM is sufficient.”
Sponsor Margaret Winans said the repurposing process also entails installing new softwares.
She said, “We install brand-new operating systems and free software, such as anti-virus and security software, and prepare them for NetLiteracy, who distributes them.”
According to Krishna Pathak, club president and senior, the club members have a set quota of how many computers to repurpose.
“Since January, we have repurposed a little over 300 machines, and we hopefully plan to do 1000 total by May.”
