On Sept.1, the women’s volleyball defeated then Number-1 ranked and undefeated Center Grove.
Varsity assistant coach Allyson Spuller said via e-mail, “After a 2-6 start to the season (including the Mishawaka Invitational results), the Center Grove win was a great win for us. Any time you win against Center Grove it is a good win, but the fact that they were Number-1 in the state and undefeated made it even better.”
Maggie Harbison, three-year starter and senior, said she hopes the win can help build momentum for the team.
The game was in doubt when Carmel lost the first two games. Spuller said via e-mail, “We pulled it off because we eliminated errors on our side of the net. The first game when we lost 25-23, we had 15 errors at the net.”
Spuller said via e-mail, “This team is a great team. If we cut back on errors we have the ability to beat anyone in the state. The girls played very well; we blocked extremely well and played aggressive defense. I am very proud of the girls. They stayed focused on the goal and did not give up.”
Upcoming games versus Ben Davis on Sept. 8 and Brebeuf Jesuit on Sept. 9 will take place at the Eric Clark Activity Center. Reuben Warshawsky <[email protected]>
