The vocational building trades house from last year finally received an offer after months on the market. John Coghlan, vocational building trades teacher, said he doesn’t know the offer price or if the board of advisers will accept it. “We have a board of advisers who make the decision,” Coghlan said, “but we finally have someone interested enough to put an offer on the house which is great news.”
Even though the house might be sold, Coghlan said he doesn’t think his class will build a house this year. He said it is already too late to start the house building process since the house wouldn’t close for at least a month if the board of advisers accepted and the class “already has commitments to other jobs.”
These prior commitments include plans to work with Carmel Parks Department on Cary Grove Park and Flowing Well to redo shelters and other structures. The class might also finish a 3,000 square foot basement. Coghlan predicts these projects will take a total of three to four months.
According to Kevin van Hoorde, senior and second year student of the class, he is excited to learn new construction skills he wasn’t able to experience last year. “Right now, we just finished a patio at someone’s house. It was pretty fun. We had to learn how to put down pavers correctly,” van Hoorde said.
Coghlan agrees. “I think the guys are having fun doing the patio and working on smaller projects.”
