Accents perform in a group number from last year’s Holiday Spectacular concerts. Senior Amelia Harrison said a favorite memory was when the Accents had to wear fat Santa costumes during their performance.

Accents will perform at the upcoming Holiday Spectacular concerts, which occur on Dec. 6, Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. This year’s theme is “Holiday Wishes,” according to director of choirs Kathrine Kouns.

Accent and senior Amelia Harrison said, “Honestly Holiday Spectacular is one of my absolute favorite weeks of the entire year for so many reasons, but I think one of the most special parts about it is how much time we get to spend with all of the other choirs in the department.”

According to Kouns, the Accents will sing two songs individually, “Auld Lang Syne” and “Deck the Rooftop,” and five group numbers: “Dream Isaiah Saw,” “Grown-Up Christmas List,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Silent Night” and “Together in Song.” She said her favorite song is “Silent Night” because the audience, as well as the pit orchestra, is asked to sing with the choir.

Harrison said, “My favorite song that the Accents are doing this year is a song called Auld Lang Syne. It’s a traditional Scottish folk song but the arrangement we are doing of it is absolutely gorgeous. The lyrics of it pretty much translate into a reflective ode to old friends, wherever they may be. Being a senior, the majority of this year is spent making those final high school memories that will connect my friends and I for many years to come, no matter where life leads us.”

Overall, Harrison said she hopes to meet and get to know as many of the other students in the program as possible, for getting to be with each other for so long opens so many opportunities to form lasting relationships with people.

Kouns said, “I hope the girls will be able to perform their best and just have a great time. Be sure to come out and support them as we all get into the holiday spirit.”
