At a Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) meeting, president and senior Rik Bag sits next to Nina Metaxas, vice president of current activity and junior. Bag said this year’s 3v3 basketball tournaments will be similar to the tournaments of past years.

According to Rik Bag, Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) president and senior, the council’s annual 3v3 basketball tournaments will take place this month at CHS. Bag said the middle school tournament will take place on March 15, and the high school tournament will take place on March 22. Proceeds will go to Hamilton County Special Olympics.

Bag said he feels positive about the upcoming events.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Bag said. “I think every one of our events this year has had a quantitative increase compared to the last year, so I think it’s looking good.”

Meanwhile, applications for the council’s next term are now open, and will close on March 27 according to CMYC sponsor Kelli Prader. She said the application is open to Carmel students entering grades nine through twelve in the 2019-2020 school year.

“We get really different numbers each year,” Bag said. “Last year we had a decent number. The year before we had a lot. From what I’ve heard, the year before that we didn’t have that many people. It just depends year by year.”

Bag said CMYC plans to host an open house for prospective applicants on March 23 at city hall.

“Anyone who has interest can come, and we’d be more than happy to answer some questions and give a bit more (information) about CMYC,” Bag said
