As the first semester of the 2025-2026 academic year draws to a close, this school’s SROs have been busy implementing new anti-vaping policies by means of teaching in health classes.

“Lately this semester, (the SROs) have been in some health classes to teach, and that was part of the vape diversion (program),” SRO Ashley Williams said. “Along with that, we have also tried to do a vape blitz lately. We have tried to hit the bathrooms harder to deter kids from vaping, along with some of our other duties and regular things in the building.”

Junior Olwyn Shaneck said she believes that these vaping prevention strategies are somewhat effective.

“Obviously, if kids want to vape, they’re not going to listen to any authority figure telling them not to,” Shaneck said. “But having an adult telling us it’s a bad idea to vape isn’t really a bad thing either.” By Evelyn Foster
