“There are over 500 people registered already,” Wallace said. The race begins at 9 a.m. for adults and 10:15 a.m. for youth competitors.
The race is organized in ‘flights’ or heats in order to maximize efficiency. “I won’t be participating, but I’ll be overseeing everything to make sure everything goes smoothly,” Wallace said.
To ready competitors for the swimming portion, the aquatics center hosted clinics on Sundays in March to teach the basic stroke and how to use proper breathing. More participants came than the previous year’s clinics.
“These athletes got to practice swimming like they will be doing in April,” Wallace said.
