HiLite staff members earn individual awards in Quill and Scroll contest

Ten HiLite staff members earned awards in the 2012 International Writing/Photo Contest sponsored by the American Society of News Editors (ASNE) and Quill and Scroll. There was a total of 3,039 entries in 12 divisions, and 401 individual student winners were selected in the different categories. In addition, senior winners are eligible to apply for several scholarships in journalism.

The following students won awards in the divisions listed:

Katie Utken – Feature Story (Sugar High)
Victor Xu – Feature Story (Not So Far from Home)
Shayan Ahmad – Review Columns (Detour to compete with Bub’s Burgers)
Hafsa Razi – In-Depth/Individual (9/11: Ten Years Later)
Katie Utken – In-Depth/Individual (Living Latino in America)
Victor Xu – In-Depth/Individual (Fading Away into Memory)
Sheen Zheng – In-Depth/Individual (The Online Menace)
Matt Wehner – Sports Story (Pedaling for a Purpose)
