Kids’ Corner welcomes changes for the upcoming year

As Kid’s Corner becomes more popular among the seniors, the program adds more activities to accommodate the growth, according to Kids’ Corner teacher Kimberly Lenzo. Although originally a class in which seniors taught a preschool class, Kids’ Corner last year included a rotation at the Edu-Care programs at the middle schools. This year, the seniors will also spend time at some elementary schools in the Early Childhood classes, where they will work with special needs children.

Lenzo said this should be beneficial for the seniors because they will have the chance to work with a larger variety of kids.

Madeleine Willard, Kids’ Corner member and senior, said she’s excited to teach in all the different types of classrooms this semester.

“I wanted to take Kids’ Corner because I really liked having Mrs. Lenzo for Child Development, and I thought this would be a good experience,” Willard said. “But I’m really looking forward to going to Edu-Care and taking care of the younger kids.”

Lenzo said the rotations among the programs will start Sept. 17, but they may go together as a class to visit one of the Edu-Care classes to give the seniors some more experience.

She said, “The best advice I can give to the seniors is to be prepared every day and don’t give any excuses. How the kids learn depend on (the seniors’) preparation.
