According to Kids’ Corner teacher Kimberly Lenzo, Oct. 8 is the start of the third and last week of the first rotation. Because of the amount of seniors in the class this year, the class is different from the class last year. The seniors will now spend three rotations of three weeks each in the Kids’ Corner preschool class at CHS, the Edu-Care program at the middle schools and the Early Childhood program at the elementary schools. Although the seniors have less time in each type of classroom, they still learn from their experiences.

Amanda Shurzinske, Kids’ Corner member and senior, said teaching the preschool class has been more work than she expected.

She said, “I don’t think I would ever be able to (teach this class) alone. I didn’t think it would be this hard, but having nine other teachers in the room is definitely helpful.”

According to Lenzo, the work isn’t necessarily hard; the seniors just have to stay on top of everything.

Shurzinske said the theme of this week was farm, so the seniors planned pigs in a blanket for snack, made farm animal puppets and read farm-themed stories to the kids.

Lenzo said when this group of seniors leaves, it will change the dynamics in the classroom.

“Having short rotations is hard because the seniors and preschoolers are just getting to know each other,” Lenzo said. “Some of (the preschoolers) will be okay with having new teachers. Others will have a little more trouble and will wonder what happened to the original teachers, but I think they’ll be fine after a few days.”
