Guest speaker to speak at next meeting Club Med on Jan. 28

On Jan. 28, the next meeting for CHS Club Med, a guest speaker is scheduled to address members, according to Omeed Malek, Club Med president and senior. Malek said although he had previously scheduled a neurologist, she was unable to attend this year.

Malek said he recognizes the importance and impact a guest speaker can have on someone. According to Malek, he himself has had several impactful experiences with guest speakers, one of whom sparked his interest in neurology.

“My brother who had major brain surgery to remove a tumor as a child also greatly influenced my decision to become a neurosurgeon,” Malek said.

Club Med sponsor Sarah Gillim said she agrees that guest speakers are very moving.

“Guest speakers give you a chance to hear someone from the real world. They give you an idea of what possible careers to pursue,” Gillim said. “They can really get you excited about various fields in medicine.

As well as a guest speaker, Malek said Club Med plans to visit Smoky Row Elementary School during February. According to Malek, Club Med has been invited to send volunteers to guest judge students’ science fair projects. He also said Club Med was also invited last year.

“I remember that we got hoards of pizza, cookies, and other food last year. (It was an) awesome benefit,” Malek said. “It was really rewarding to see the smiles on the kids’ faces.”
