According to Cui and Sun, the fundraising in past years have been low due to conflicts with Dance Marathon fundraising and the two hope for a better outcome this year.

LifeLines is scheduled to meet at 7:05 a.m. on Jan. 16 in the community room. According to LifeLines sponsor Rebekah Overbey, members will begin initial brainstorming for project ideas for February’s Black History Month. By the end of next month, Overbey said officers will finish orders for locker signs and shirt orders.

According to Eric Cui, LifeLines officer and senior, members will possibly collaborate with the Diversity Focus Group and create fundraiser ideas, video announcements, and historical music that will help students reflect on the black history and the different changes throughout the generation.

“I was hoping maybe this year it was a good idea to introduce a speaker for the (Black History Month) since we haven’t done that before,” Cui said. “It’s still a work in progress, but I think having a person to talk about those things will definitely be an eye opener for students.”

Overbey said she hopes to conduct a bake sale that would support organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

“Our donations go back to the black culture and also for the other people in need during this time,” Overbey said. “Even though it’s Black History Month, we still try to bring unifying yet different groups of people in general together and help them out as much as we can.”
