Maintenance department to prepare for winter sports

According to maintenance foreman Mike Wyatt, in the upcoming weeks, the maintenance department will start to prepare the building for winter sports, which are typically indoors.

Wyatt said the department will install shot clocks behind the basketball backboards in the varsity gymnasium as well as check the water, lighting and scoreboards in the natatorium for swimming season.

Natalie Nichols, women’s swim team member and junior, said the maintenance department’s preparation is important to the competition season.

“They clean and shock the pool,” she said. “That means they clean out all the chemicals and make everything balanced. If the chemicals weren’t balanced, then everyone would get sick.”

The maintenance department will also clear buildings in the football stadium for the winter, according to Wyatt.

“We can’t do that until after the (football) season’s over, if they win State or if they lose before State. For maintenance, we always hope it’s before,” he said.
