After having to cancel its annual event last year, Global Giving is bringing back Carmel’s Best Dance Crew this year, according to sponsor Ryan Ringenberg.

Even though the event will take place sometime in the spring, co-president and senior Jessica Chiang said she would like to get some of the plans out of the way before winter break. One thing she  said she wants to change about the event this year is to make it less of a competition.

“I don’t know if we’re going to make it like a competition necessarily because I know the concern from two years ago was a lot of stage anxiety. A lot of kids had never performed in front of actual judges before. I think I would still invite the judges to be a part of the event, but it might be more of a jam, so just them showing off their talents,” Chiang said. “It’s not going to be anything super stressful.”

Last year, the club decided not to host Carmel’s Best Dance Crew because the number of students in Hip-Hop club decreased.

“I think the event will be a lot better this year (than last year) because I’ve been hearing on the announcements that there’s a freshman breakdancing club, so maybe the interest has sparked again,” Chiang said. “I know that when the alums left, they kind of took the culture with them, so hopefully there’s a revival coming. We’re just going to have to see how it goes.”

As for this semester, Chiang said she hopes to host a ping-pong tournament with Ping-Pong club.

“I asked Kushal Shah (Ping-Pong club president and senior) but he didn’t really get back to me,” Chiang said. “I think they’re trying to figure out their whole structure of the club right now because I heard there’s 175 people in the club, so they’re just trying to figure things out. I’m just being patient because I don’t want to rush them.”
