Chess Club has set the date to determine the teams it will be sending to the spring state tournament to after school on Monday, Feb. 24 in room F104. According to club sponsor Margaret Winans, the club will be hosting a tournament to decide who will compete at state level.

The competition will occur on March 22 in Terre Haute, IN. Sameer Manchanda, club president and senior, said club members interested in competing in the spring state tournament must participate in a tournament to determine placing because he plans on sending only two teams to the state competition. This will be the third time CHS will participate in this tournament. Manchanda said he plans on making this the club’s third first place state victory as well.

Manchanda said all students are welcome to participate. However interested students must compete in the tournament to determine placement. Additional information can be found on the club Facebook page.

He also said no progress has been made regarding club’s T-shirt orders. According to Manchanda, the club is waiting for warmer weather to order shirts.

Jimmy Zheng, club member and senior, said he believes the T-shirts will be worth the wait.

“We designed the shirts ourselves,” Zheng said. “They look pretty great.”

Manchanda said he is looking forward to the spring state tournament.

“I have high hopes for this years’ teams,” Manchanda said. “I’m confident that we’ll continue our streak.”
