The School Calendar Committee, a group of teachers, parents and administrators in the Carmel Clay school district, recommended new courses for the 2015-2016 CHS school year. The school board is discussing the viability of incorporating these courses into the 2015-2016 Program of Studies.

The courses include AP Physics 2, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems and Medical Interventions (a three-year course sequence), Digital Photography 2, Advanced Child Development, Introduction to Culinary Arts and Hospitality, IB Business Management SL and College-Entrance Prep. Currently, none of the courses have been approved by the school board for the 2015-2016 school year; however, approved courses will be available for students to select when scheduling for the 2015-2016 school year.

“We are very, very excited (to be able to offer new courses for students),” school board president Layla Spanenberg said.

The potential courses are offered in a variety of disciplines. Sophomore Michaela Dawson said she is interested in taking the PLTW Biomedical Sciences courses because she is interested in a career in the health field.

“I think (the PLTW Biomedical Sciences courses) would just give me a head-start on different medicines and how to deal with them and what they are,” Dawson said. “I hope it gets added.”
