According to Vivian Heerens, club president and senior, club members are making blankets for the humane society, as well as planning the FCCLA end-of-year banquet. The date of the banquet has yet to be scheduled, as plans are being made around members’ schedules, according to Heerens.
According to club sponsor Nancy Spencer, several FCCLA summer activities will be held, including the FCCLA leadership conference on June 10 at Avon High School.
“(That conference) is important for leadership training, especially for new chapters and new officers for the upcoming year,” Heerens said.
According to Heerens, three members of the club, including herself, junior Maryann O’Connor and sophomore Josh Khantsis, will be attending the FCCLA National Conference in Washington, D.C. on July 5-9.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun just to meet kids from across the country, compete in our events and see D.C.,” Heerens said.
As a senior, Heerens will soon be ending her time as president of the Carmel chapter of the FCCLA, as well as a three-year member.
“FCCLA has pretty much been my entire high school experience,” Heerens said. “I’ve made so many different kinds of friends, even people I wouldn’t typically be friends with. I learned so much about myself and how to be a leader.”
