School support high for CHS women’s swim team

On Feb. 12, the CHS women’s swimming and diving team won their 25th consecutive state championship.

Big Game sponsor Dale Herr said, “Spirit days and general awareness gets the crowd pumped and creates bigger crowds at events, something we’re aiming for.”

The swimmers trained hard for the championship and the spirit week leading up to the competition built up school support and knowledge of the event. The spirit days, including days like Mario and Luigi Day, were designed to amp up the school for the upcoming state finals. Many swimmers and divers participated, and when it came to the actual competition, support for the team was high. A number of Big Game members attended as well, working hard to cheer on the team to victory.

“We’ve been training for this all season,” junior and swimmer Morgan Chang said, “and to see the team get so much support even before we won was great. It seemed like everyone supported us, even some people who only seem to support stuff like football.”

Big Game is always looking to get as many people involved as possible in raising school spirit, focusing mainly on basketball for the winter season, but trying to get involved in other sports as well. This way, Big Game president Zane Anderson said, Big Game is not seen as just a football and basketball support organization.

CHS won first place in the state championship with a total of 382 points. By Mackenzie Blake <[email protected]>
