Marching band to perform at Homecoming halftime show on Sept. 16, competition on Sept. 17

The CHS marching band’s next performance is scheduled to occur during the Homecoming football game against Lawrence North on Sept. 16. Members of the band will perform their competition show, “Going Viral” during halftime at the game.

“‘Going Viral’ goes with the concept of online videos,” Michael Pote, associate director of bands, said. “It’s the idea that once a video is put online more and more people watch it and try to duplicate it or make a parody of it. In the show, one section of the band will start out with a simple idea, and each section will then make it their own.”

The next day, Sept. 17, the marching band is scheduled to perform at its first competition of the season, the Warren Central Invitational. Because this competition occurs on the day of the Homecoming dance, bandcoming, a dance for members of the marching band, is scheduled to take place on Oct. 8 in the band room.

In addition to the competition season, the marching band is also working on material for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, which they are scheduled to perform in this year in New York.

“Right now our focus is 100 percent on the competition material, but we will start focusing more on the parade stuff either this week or next week,” Kathryn Dawson, drum major and senior, said. “Overall we’ve spent about 85 percent of our time on competition stuff and 15 percent on the parade.”
