House to host garage sale Nov. 17-18, proceeds to benefit Riley Hospital

The CHS student government will conduct its Fourth Annual Garage Sale for Riley Hospital for Children this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. House members donated most the items that will be sold at the Garage Sale, but other students have, as well. Items can be donated until Friday. All proceeds from the Garage Sale will be donated to Riley Hospital for Children.

House sponsor Sarah Wolff said that a wide variety of items will be available for purchase. She said the number of items that will be available is in the thousands, but she doesn’t have an exact number.

“I don’t count (the items),” Wolff said. “If I did that, I would be here until next year.”

According to Wolff, any items that won’t be sold at the Garage Sale will be donated to various charities.

“We’re not only able to help Riley Hospital with this, but with the extra things that we don’t sell we’re able to donate to other charities as well,” Wolff said.

Senior Zachary “Zach” Post said he donated a rocking chair, stuffed animals, a remote-controlled airplane, and some books among other items. However, he said his favorite item he ever found at the Garage Sale was a shirt that doubled as a drum set.

“On the shirt, you can beat your chest and there’s a speaker coming out of it and it’s like a drum,” Post said. “It’s like you’re Tarzan, but you’re playing the drums or something.”

Wolff said that although she can’t predict whether the Garage Sale will be a success or not, she believes herself and the other Garage Sale organizers put in enough effort to make this year’s event a good one.

“We need some good items, and we need people to come and buy things,” Wolff said. “Hopefully people will see (our advertising) and be interested.”
