On Feb. 20, 2013, Math Club students will take the AMC (American Math Competition) on various levels according to skill. After all the hard work the members have put into learning the various tricks and skills necessary for the math competition, they will soon see how the work has paid off.

“I believe that everyone in Math Club is ready for the AMC because they have all spent so much time working on the math problems during Math Club,” Math Club sponsor Dan Perdun said.

According to Math Club officer David Liang, the AMC competition is a series of tests, where each one has a different skill level. The first is the AMC 8, followed by the AMC 10 and finally the AMC 12. Each test has a total of only 25 questions each. To have a chance to even qualify for the competitions, the students will have to step up to the plate.

“The AMC will be difficult tomorrow,” Math Club member Ryan Jou said.

According to Liang, the average results of AMC for the Math Club members have generally been pretty good (around an 18 out of 25), but students will not do well if they slacked off the entire school year. To give students a last chance to prepare by themselves, Math Club officers have decided to give the members a break from club on Feb. 19.

However, both Perdun and Liang believe that the members will do just fine if they remember everything they learned.
