As students return from spring break, the nurses have already jumped straight to work and are currently informing students about as well as preparing for upcoming sports physicals. According to nurse coordinator Patty Antle, the health center will be giving out sports physicals for the upcoming school year on April 21 for $25.

Antle said, “Students need to have a current physical if they plan on playing sports next school year. Any student in this school district can come to the health center to get one. This is just a convenience we offer every year for the students.”

As the nurses occupy a busy schedule, student assistants have been a helping hand, according to Antle. Their simple tasks, including running passes, stocking the supplies and making ice packs, are essential to keeping the health center in its best condition.

One of these student assistants is senior Rachel Weiss. According to Weiss, a normal day at the health center is very peaceful and calm.

Weiss said, “We usually don’t get a lot of people in the clinic, and the nurses don’t have much for us to do. Of course there are some days when there’ll be a big flow of students in the morning, but rarely does that happen.”

In addition to the placidity of their surroundings, the student assistants also have the benefit of having an extra study hall.

Weiss said, “The nurses don’t have much for us to do, so we’re usually doing homework. However, when we do get to help out, it’s nice getting to help them for a change.”
