According to school board president Layla Spanenberg, the Indiana Board of Education will not make a ruling regarding additional snow day waivers until the end of the winter season.
Spanenberg said. “The waivers have been granted for two days by the department of education. Every day we have missed we have applied for a waiver.”
The Carmel Clay School District has 182 school days built into the school year, but the state only requires 180 days, so there are two days built into the schedule that will not need to be made up. According to Spanenberg, as of right now there are three days that will need to be added to the end of the school year.
“All extra days that we need will be added to the end (of the school year),” Spanenberg said.
Senior Zac Schleich said that while he does not want to have to attend school for extra days, he thinks that having extra days will not be too challenging to deal with.
“I wouldn’t really enjoy going to school and I wouldn’t want to, but it wouldn’t be too bad,” Schleich said. “Since I’m in mainly senior classes, I would probably just go and hang out with friends.”
