On Sept. 10, Key Club will conduct its second meeting in the freshman cafeteria. This year, the club maintains an improved Web site and a new office.
According to Katie Gray, Key Club co-sponsor, students will receive the code of conduct and the dues form at the meeting, which will be held twice, at 7:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., for the convenience of club members. She said the dues are $20 this year, and both documents are due on Sept. 24.
Club vice president Morgan Perry said her goal this year is to make Key Club more organized, including making it easier to track and document the hours a club member has completed. She said this would make it easier to obtain Distinguished Grad points for these hours.
“People have to turn in the hours within a month after doing the service activity,” Perry said. “It’s so we can keep the hours system more organized and useful and make sure people aren’t lying about their hours.”
According to Gray, The key club Web site is accesible from co-sponsor Jill Grimes’ page in the school’s online directory and will be updated every gold Friday. She said the Web site will have lots of information and downloadable forms.
The club also has its own office now, located in room E232 in the social studies hallway. Gray said students should drop off forms or other club materials at the office, in case Grimes or herself are not available.
Gray said Key Club will start a project with Habitat for Humanity sometime towards the end of September. “We’re collecting old denim, like jeans or jackets,” she said. “They’ll be turned into insulation (for houses).”
Perry said she advises Key Club members to keep track of their hours and not to wait until the last month to volunteer.
“50 hours seems like a lot,” she said, “but if you space it out it takes no time at all.”
