A job well done: year two of Christkindlmarkt underway, a wonderful place to spend time with family and friends this holiday season

With the opening of Carmel’s Christkindlmarkt on Nov. 17, I had the opportunity to explore the event in all its glory, from food to gifts to entertainment.

As the photos depict, the event’s decorations was the number one attraction for me. It’s nearly impossible not to feel cheery and in the holiday spirit with the abundance of lights, bows and garlands displayed around the market. Additionally, the German-style vendors incorporate the culture appropriately through their decorations and set-up, making the market much more special.

As in written in my recent Perspectives column, I was looking forward to the large expansion of vendors, and of the market itself. The space felt much bigger, as it stretched East back to the Monon Trail. As anticipated, there were a variety of exclusive, one-of-a-kind items that contribute to the uniqueness the market portrays. It was wonderful having the opportunity to explore the custom Carmel items, which are available for purchase at the event.

Of course, the market could not be what it is without the wonderful food. While sampling popular food items, I was not disappointed with what any of the options. I have no doubt that the German-style food will be a market hit. My personal favorite was, of course, the German-style pretzels.

Carmel Christkindlmarkt, open until Dec. 23, is a popular event that offers many gift options, toys, food and drink options, children’s attractions, music, and, of course, ice skating. It certainly does not disappoint and I highly recommend a visit with family and friends this holiday season.
