Sophomore Alexandra Ortiz displays her traditional Puerto Rican skirt, which she said is part of the “jibara” outfit. She said when she lived in Puerto Rico, her school would often perform these dances, and during these dances, the students would adorn the traditional skirts. Ortiz said she still wears them while dancing certain styles such as “bomba” and “plena” during family gatherings.
