House starts Dance Marathon fundraising

House will sponsor a garage sale on Nov. 21 and 22 to raise money for Dance Marathon. This event is scheduled to take place in the main cafeteria from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All items will have been donated from student government representatives.

Speaker of the House Sunny Huang said she is really excited for the garage sale. “This is a new event we’re adding,” Huang said. “It’s not just for Dance Marathon, but for the community.”

After the garage sale, the next House event is a Steak ‘N Shake Night, planned for Dec. 2. All profits will go toward Dance Marathon and all members of the community are invited. This event will be from 5 to 10 p.m. During that week, coupons for this event will be given out to students during school. Everyone attending must bring their coupons to Steak ‘N Shake in order to donate 20 percent of their meal bill to Riley Hospital.

On Dec. 8, there will be a call-out meeting during second session SRT in the auditorium for students who want to find out more on Dance Marathon. Carson, a former patient at Riley Hospital, is scheduled to speak at the callout meeting.

“He spoke last year and was very, very ill. He was pale and bloated, had been in and out of school, and was taking many medications,” Wolff said. According to Wolff, Carson wants to tell Carmel that the money students donate is put to good use. “Every bit counts,” she said.

The last event until Dance Marathon on Feb. 20 is a tailgate before the home basketball game against North Central on Dec. 11. This event is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. in the freshman cafeteria. According to Wolff, a $5 ticket will get students unlimited pizza and soda, with all profits going to Riley Hospital.
