The marching band will compete in the Lawrence Central Invitational, its first competition of the season, on Sept. 11.
According to Michael Pote, associate director of bands, the Lawrence Central Invitational is one of several smaller competitions leading up to the marching band’s largest event, Bands Of America, in November.
“At competitions, bands are divided into classes depending on school size,” he said. “At Lawrence Central, there’s around six to eight bands in our class. At Bands Of America, there can be more than 20.”
Sydney Spitler, a member of the marching band’s brass section and senior, said the Lawrence Central Invitational will give marching band members practice and experience for future competitions.
She said, “Lawrence Central Invitational is a small competition and not that important, but it gives us the chance to perform in front of people and practice our program.” By Caroline Zhang <[email protected]>
