Smell that scent? It’s the greatest new business to come to Indy in 2015, Amelia’s Bakery! Although it has existed at farmers markets and in Bluebeard for a handful of years, this is the bakery’s first storefront location. The bakery is in the heart of the foodie haven of Fletcher Place. It is located along at 653 Virginia Avenue, sitting snugly next to Nicey Treat and Bluebeard, along the hot Virginia Avenue corridor.
Upon entering the bakery, one is filled with fresh smells of baguettes, breads and sweets of all varieties. The bakery can easily be described as well-curated, with its assortment of high-end cheeses and meats. Crowned by a gorgeous light-fixture handmade out of a tree trunk, a visit to Amelia’s is nothing short of perfect. It carries an artsy and instagram-worthy vibe, from the exposed brick all the way down to the fonts the bakery uses. No seating is available at the location, making it more of a grab-and-go type experience, and as a result pushing customers to explore the neighborhood with delicious products. After purchasing the Semolina ($6.75), a warm and fresh bread with perfect consistency and a plethora of unique seeds, for over-the-top flavor. Rough on the outside, soft on the inside, flavorful and hot; this bread was amazing. At that moment, I realized that any bread in the future will never live up to the one that I had just experienced. I am already planning my next visit to the bakery and can only hope that it will be when the bread is hot out of the oven.
