In this post, I’m going to analyze each fall sports team’s honors as we transition into winter sports.
Cross-Country
This year marked the first year Carmel took the individual championship for both boy’s and girl’s cross country. This year also marked the first year both boy’s and girl’s teams took the championship. In particular, Mr. Ben Veatch was phenomenal as he won the individual championship AND the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award Winner. Sarah Leinheiser won the girl’s individual State Championship and has had a phenomenal season. She set the school record for a 5K time, as well as a meet and course record. She also had the 2nd fastest girl’s 5K time in Indiana history, ahead of Mishawaka standout Anna Rohrer.
Teddy Browning last year commented that last year’s squad “could form two completely separate teams and still crush the rest of the teams outright. It’s not fair.” While Browning commented that this year they were not as dominant as last year’s squad, fellow teammate Zac Leinheiser said her sister (junior Sarah Leinheiser) “could pass even Anna Rohrer’s mark if she put in serious work over the offseason.”
Football
Despite Penn winning over Carmel 16-10, Carmel had a dominant season. After a rocky start at 1-2, Carmel won 9 straight before falling to Penn.
Soccer
The girls soccer team lost to Zionsville in a major upset. Carmel finished MIC champs. At the same time, no one on the team returned the HiLite’s calls when asked for a comment.
The boys soccer team went back to Semi-state for the first time in a while, and while they didn’t make it to State, it was a great run nonetheless.
Volleyball
Volleyball may be unheard of, and while they didn’t make it out of Sectionals, they had a great season.
