The eSports team has concluded their new team tryouts for the second split of the school year and released their roster for the 2025 teams.
Sean Bandy, a senior and four-year member of the eSports Smash Ultimate Team, has been officially promoted to the varsity team. He said that he’s honored and is very enthusiastic to participate in tournaments with his new team in the upcoming season.
“It feels unreal. The thought of me becoming a varsity member was in the back of my mind but I didn’t think I’d actually pull it off,” Bandy said. “I thought I would be buried in the junior varsity for the rest of my senior year. I’m super excited about it.”
Bandy said that because it’s his last school year, he made it a goal to push himself to achieve his long-standing highschool goal. He said, “My opponents had better characters than me by far. I could’ve been knocked out at any moment if things went wrong, but somehow I managed to pull through. I guess I’m proud of myself for not doubting myself at the last moment.”
Tyler Kern, assistant coach of the eSports team said that students are constantly practicing and working on gameplay in their own time to improve their skills.
“I leave the practicing to them, and they mostly do their own thing. A lot of them enjoy being a member of this club, and the results speak for themselves,” Kern said. “It’s good to see players stepping up to fill in the positions of their upperclassmen, especially since many of the varsity members will be graduating in the following school year.”
