Best Buddies members Mary (Maggie) Winings and Naomi Sella represent Best Buddies at a club fair in the Freshman Cafeteria on Aug. 22. “Best Buddies is all about creating an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome and I love seeing those connections happen in such a natural and fun way through our events,” Evans said via email.
The Best Buddies Club will be having their annual match party on Sept. 12 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in the Freshman Cafeteria. The match party is when friendship pairs are finalized and will get to meet for the first time. This year’s theme is “Let’s Glow into the Year with Best Buddies.” Food, games, crafts, neon accessories and decor will be provided.
Cora Lammers, chapter president of Best Buddies and junior, said she is looking forward to the event.
“I’m really excited to make new friends and see so many new friendships be created in the club (this year),” Lammers said.
Lammers joined Best Buddies during her freshman year and hopes members of the club will love it as much as she does.
“I decided to be in Best Buddies because I have a sister with Down syndrome and have always had friends with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout my life,” Lammers said. ”I saw this club and got involved my freshman year and it was a great decision. (People) should definitely consider joining Best Buddies.”
Sponsor co-chair Kaitalyn Evans said she is looking forward to the Best Buddies year.
“It’s so meaningful to see students supporting each other, celebrating differences and building genuine connections,” Evans said via email. “If you’re looking for a way to meet new people, be part of a welcoming community and have fun, Best Buddies is a great place to start.” By Charlotte Moser
