After placing second at the Regional Bands of America (BOA) competition, color guard members prepare for the BOA Semifinals and Finals, in addition to their performance in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The BOA competitions will occur on Nov. 12 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
“This contest features 90 competitive units from across the country, performing for thousands of fans,” Rosie Queen, sponsor of the color guard, said.
However, after the BOA competitions, color guard members will continue practice to prepare for the Macy’s parade.
“We have been practicing our routine, and the week after BOA, we will be fine-tuning our performance to make sure we look our best,” Paige Roberts, guard member and junior, said.
“On Thanksgiving, we will get to be on TV in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We will get only two hours of sleep the night before, but it’s going to be so cool to be on TV,” Roberts said.
In addition to this, Roberts said, guard members will attend a play on Broadway, eat Thanksgiving dinner on a boat next to the Statue of Liberty, and shop.
“This is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity,” Roberts said. “It is going to be amazing to be in the parade and in New York with all of my closest friends.”
