Students who are currently enrolled in Algebra 1-2 or English 10 are scheduled to take the required GQE/ECA on Dec. 8 and 9. According to guidance director Linda Skafish, students who are new to CHS and have not taken the required Indiana GQE/ECA or junior and senior students who have not passed or taken Algebra I or English 10 will be testing as well.
“Students who are currently in Algebra 1-2 will just take the test during class on either Dec. 8 or Dec. 9, however students who are not currently taking Algebra I will test during periods one and two on Dec. 8. The English 10 ECA will be administered during periods one and two on Dec. 9,” Skafish said.
The GQE, or Graduation Qualifying Exam, is a state-wide test that ensures Indiana high school graduates are able to apply basic knowledge in reading, writing and mathematics. Students who fail the test the first time, or students who have not taken it because they transferred from a different state are required to pass it in order to obtain a diploma.
“All students that have to take this test on Thursday or Friday will be pre-arranged from their normal classes. Any students who miss their exam will be able to take a make-up test in the counseling office on Monday,”
