The transportation department is planning to use new GPS and I.E. technology to conduct additional performance reviews and to assess student behavior, according to Ron Farrand, director of facilities and transportation, this is one of the few changes to the department this year.
“We can analyze for speed, whether a bus stop was missed or not and several other factors,” Farrand said. “We will also be able to…work with schools when we see behavior that is inappropriate.”
The transportation department has also recently promoted one of its administrative assistants to the position of supervisor in order to improve customer service in response to parent complaints. However, any more significant changes are not expected.
“We did not really have to alter any of our normal procedures,” Farrand said. “We review and revise routes each summer so we are able to accommodate student population changes without too much difficulty. I believe we have only added one bus at the high school this year.”
Senior Jacob Tehrani said that the only change he has noticed on his bus route is an addition of a few more stops to the traditional route, and in turn, more students on the bus. However, although Tehrani said that the route is inconvenient at times, it is his last year on the bus so he is not too concerned.
“The new route is a bit obnoxious because it doesn’t go through my neighborhood, but instead in and out of it to get to the different stops, which wastes time,” Tehrani said. “But I don’t really care because I’m a senior and I’ll only be riding the bus for a little bit longer.”
