The sophomore class is in the process of planning events for the rest of the school year, after having a successful Homecoming week.
According to sophomore class president Jordan (J.D.) Arland, Homecoming turned out to be a fun experience.
“It went great. The sophomore class actually won overall. We won some of the spirit days. I think it was one of the most successful Homecomings,” Arland said.
According to Allison Malloy, sophomore class sponsor and English teacher, the sophomores won the playhouse building contest for their charity, Chaucie’s Place.
“They made a conscious effort to plan ahead of time, because one of the things that takes an enormous amount of time is actually what we do during the (building). They took the lead, J.D. especially, of getting some of the materials to us earlier so that we could use our time more efficiently,” she said.
Arland also plans for future events that will benefit both the community and the sophomores.
“The key element in leadership is promoting togetherness within a team, so that’s why this coming fall I’m planning an event at the SoHo coffee shop. It’s an open mic-sophomores can come show off their talent, and a percentage of the proceeds from SoHo will go back to the Sophomore class,” he said.
