The CHS aquatics center has started renting out its lanes to Guerin Catholic, and stated that any other groups are able to buy pool time in the future as well.
“Guerin has been using our lanes,” lifeguard and junior Julian Tyte said. “They come on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and use them for an hour each time.”
This policy is not exclusive to Guerin, as any other high school that wishes to rent out pool space will be able to in the upcoming months.
The aquatics center is still looking for new lifeguards for the upcoming swim season, according to aquatics center director Kinsey Wallace.
While the job description states that lifeguards are responsible for monitoring pool activities, both Wallace and Tyte said that there is more to it than that.
“Being a lifeguard is lots of responsibility,” Tyte said. “You’re in charge of a lot of kids whenever a swim club or swim team is going on, and it’s not always just lifeguarding. You got to deal with patrons, money occasionally for lap swim, walking up the entire pool area and opening it up.”
