Broncos. These are your bucking horses that you may sometimes see in PBR events, and they are also the mascot of Boise State (who won a bowl game this year for the first time in a while. Well done, Boise State!). Sadly, today’s talk about Broncos refers to the Denver Broncos and some big news that happened on Sunday.
Yes, Peyton Manning has retired…whether permanently or temporarily (Brett Favre, anyone?), only time will tell.
This is big news for not only the city of Denver, but for the city of Indianapolis. In fact, ESPN aired a SC Featured on this story, and got various high school quarterbacks that were all named, incidentally, Peyton at the Colts practice facility. These “Peyton look alikes” talked about how they saw Manning as an idol, regardless of team.
And it’s worth noting that the Broncos are already scrambling to honor him. The most obvious idea is to honor Manning on both teams (the Colts and the Broncos). And that is not too farfetched of an idea, because thanks to Denver winning the Super Bowl, they get to play the first game of the season at home on the first week of the season. So, if they got the Colts to come to Denver, they could honor Manning on both teams that way, in Denver’s stadium. Because let’s face it, Indianapolis has honored him in that way (and some Colts fans even cheered when he scored against the Colts at Lucas Oil), and Denver might want to return the favor.
After 15 years, I think Manning has established a place in history. And I already picture the scene: Manning in the Hall of Fame, next to Tom Brady (if he ever retires). That would paint the perfect picture: Irony, Brotherhood, and Rivalry. All in one.
But, regardless, I thank Manning for his time in the NFL. I’ll catch you all next week.
