The third annual talent show will take place on Oct. 9 this year. According to the event’s co-chair Nancy Palmer, the show will start at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15 at the door.
“The variety should be very entertaining. At Carmel, we are fortunate to often see the talented singers, dancers, instrumentalist, athletes, etc.” Palmer said. “But this gives an open forum for those with different, more unusual talents.”
Performing arts teacher Jim Peterson said the purpose of the talent show is to raise funds for the Behind-the-Scenes parent club. “The parent club helps with different aspects of the theater and film division of our school’s performing arts,” Peterson said. “Parents help with scholarships, spirit, concessions and more. They do quite a bit.”
Junior Jessamyn Anderson will be one of the 18 acts performing. According to Anderson, she will be singing “Kiss the Air,” a song written by Broadway composer Scott Alan. Anderson said that singing in front of an audience is something that is very natural for her.
“I have been singing in front of an audience for as long as I can remember,” Anderson said. “Singing has been the dominant part of my life for what seems like forever.
According to Palmer, fan participation will also be a part of the talent show.
“There will be five $100 prizes awarded. The Judge’s choice, Behind the Scenes Club choice (sponsoring the event), and the People’s Choice,” Palmer said. “The audience will be very lively and vocal about their choices and will use their ticket stub during intermission to vote.
Peterson said the talent show is a great event for the school. “The talent show is a wonderful way to showcase the talent of our students outside vocal talents,” Peterson said. “The kids are amazing, and it’s good for them to have a venue to show off.”
