Sophomore Elias Graham
How are you preparing for the musical auditions?
One way I am preparing for the musical auditions is practicing my audition song and trying to depict what I think the characters’ feelings and expressions are based on the mood of the song.
What are you most excited or nervous about?
The part I am most excited about is meeting new people and being able to be with others who enjoy and love music just as much as I do but I am most nervous about the dancing part of the audition. This is because “Cinderella” is more ballroom-type dancing, which means more lifts and dips (compared to) a more modern type (of) musical.
Have you ever been in a musical at CHS, if so what was the experience like?
I was a part of last year’s CHS musical, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” It was a wonderful experience to be a part of such a wonderful production and make such great friends. I became closer to friends I had before, (since) the musical did 6-hour rehearsals.
Have you seen the musical “Cinderella” before?
The only “Cinderella” I have seen is the Disney version. To be frank, I never knew there was a Broadway version of “Cinderella.”
What was your initial reaction when you heard the show was “Cinderella”?
When I heard that we were doing “Cinderella” for a musical this year, I didn’t know what to think. I was a little disappointed because I was not familiar with the show and did not know what to expect.
What is your favorite thing about musicals and performing on stage?
My favorite part about the on-stage experience is that you paint the story for the audience and put your own twist on your character, adding a little bit of you to the story as well. Another thing I love about musicals is the backstage experience and trying to work together to piece the show together.

How are you preparing for the musical auditions?
I listen to the song that I’m going to be auditioning with and I practice singing it with the backing track.
What are you most excited or nervous about?
I am most nervous about the dance audition, as I don’t know what to expect. I have never done ballroom or waltz dancing before but I am excited about the big dresses and ballroom dance scenes, even if I don’t make it in I think it will still be really fun to watch.
Have you ever been in a musical at CHS, if so what was the experience like?
I was in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” as a part of the booth choir. Honestly, it was really frustrating because nobody in the choir really tried or wanted to be there but the actual performance was okay and it was fun to be a part of the musical even if it didn’t really feel like it most times.
Have you seen the musical “Cinderella” before?
I have seen the movie version of this musical but I have not seen it live.
What was your initial reaction when you heard the show was “Cinderella”?
I was surprised, I didn’t really know what to expect at all with “Cinderella” but I was also super excited to get the chance to get a role where I get to dance. Being in the choir (of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”) last year was fun but a little boring since we didn’t get to dance.
What is your favorite thing about musicals and performing on stage?
My favorite thing about musicals is the performing. Having your hard work pay off and knowing what you’re doing onstage is a great feeling.

How are you preparing for the musical auditions?
I am listening to the soundtrack nonstop and working with my vocal teacher (for) my audition.
What are you most excited or nervous about?
I am most nervous for the dance audition, since you can’t really prepare for it. You learn the choreography on the spot and perform it for the judges only a little bit after you learn the choreography. I am most excited about the opportunity to hopefully be in my third CHS musical for my final year here. I think this will be a really fun show and I love getting to perform with my best friends.
Have you ever been in a musical at CHS, if so what was the experience like?
Yes, I have been in 2 (musicals). I was in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. For “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” I was in the choir and for “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” I was in an ensemble where I got to be both a Gogo girl and a Vegas girl. Both were a lot of hard work but I especially loved getting to meet and work with new people from different choirs.
Have you seen the musical “Cinderella” before?
I have seen the movie but not the musical live.
What was your initial reaction when you heard the show was “Cinderella”?
I was not expecting it to be “Cinderella”. I had some other guesses in mind but I’m overall really happy now that this is what the directors chose.
What is your favorite thing about musicals and performing on stage?
I love the adrenaline that we all get before performing and getting to present our hard work for everyone to see. I just love the rehearsal process and being able to make new memories through the weirdness of musical theater.
Callbacks will be on Oct 26. and the cast list will be coming out on Oct. 28 or 29.
