On Sept. 16, senior Alivia Conz eats lunch dressed as a minion for homecoming’s spirit day. Homecoming week’s dress-up days included minions, bikers vs. surfers, celebrity day, decades day, and blue and gold. Conz said, “Since this is my last year I wanted to go all out.”

Fine artist Cheryl Lankhaar paints in front of Anthony’s Chophouse on Sept. 13 for Carmel on Canvas. Carmel on Canvas was a plein-air painting event hosted yearly by Carmel. The event was held for two days, Sept.13 and Sept. 14.

Sophomore Sophia Coburn practices working on a Ti-Nspire calculator for her AP Pre-Calculus Class on Sept.12. Students are learning how to graph the 12 parent functions such as cube, square, natural logarithm, greatest integer, and absolute value. They also focused on finding each function’s domain and range interval notations.

On Sept. 11, CHS senior Sophie Mock is working on her golf game as the team prepares for sectionals in two weeks. Sophie said “I prepare for sectionals and state by focusing on my short game.”

Debate event head and senior Joseph Ahn (right) and sophomore Ismail Kheiri (left) explain the intricacies of creating a framework for a debate case in the media center on Sept. 10. Kheiri worked on his slideshow over the weekend to present to over 32 audience members on Tuesday. “A framework is the lense you use to view the debate,” Kheiri said.

On Sept. 6, in the Carmel Café, senior Aadit Bothra squeezes maple syrup into the blender while making a frappuccino. Bothra said, “Working in the café is a blast; you get a lot of free drinks.”

Varsity tennis player and junior Wesley Worobel practices his serving styles at the CHS tennis courts after school on Sept. 5. The team finished practice with new techniques for their next match.

Sophomore Shanmukha Polu watches a presentation during the Carmel Giving Hope callout meeting on Sept. 4. The club has bi-monthly meetings after school, on late-start Wednesdays.

Sophomores Madeleine Sorg and Hailey Todd conduct a science experiment about water electrolysis during their honors chemistry class on Sept. 3 in Jeremy Horner’s room. They completed the experiment and learned how electricity is used to split water into oxygen and hydrogen. “I had a lot of fun doing this, it got kind of messy though,” Todd said.

Sophomore Quinn Sullivan serves the pickleball after winning his third consecutive round at the Pickle Pong club in the CHS Field House gym on Aug. 30. Pickle Pong, a recently established club that featured the sports of pickleball and ping pong. “My friend Neil convinced me to join this club so I could be his partner when playing doubles,” Sullivan said.

Freshmen Riya Chandra (left), Shravya Pillutla (middle) and Arna Jatla (right) studies DNA structure in principles of biomedical science (PLTW). The PLTW class focused on hands-on learning, and allowed students to explore biological concepts through group activities. “I like that [Conley] lets us watch videos and creates fun ways to explain concepts, and I like that he lets us work with our friends,” Jatla said.

Seniors Asuka Hashimoto and Kaitlyn Yang studies hard for their AP classes at the Carmel High School library on Aug. 28. Hashimoto and Yang came to the library during their free block for their TCP schedule. “Usually when I have a free period I just go to the library and study with my friends,” says Yang.

Junior Anthony Coellner celebrating for a touchdown scored against Homestead at the Carmel Stadium on Aug. 23. Anthony started on the Carmel Varsity football team as a quarterback, leading the Hounds to sectionals last year.
