According to club sponsor George Giltner, the construction division of the TechHOUNDS robotics team has begun making benches for Faith Church in Anderson. The husband of industrial technology teacher Laura Erli approached the team with this project.
Erli said she and her husband both work as mentors for the TechHOUNDS construction team.
“(My husband) saw this as an opportunity that would benefit both the church and the construction team,” Erli said via email. “It also gave my husband an excuse to make a generous donation to this very deserving and hard working group of young men and women.”
The project is scheduled to be completed on Oct. 27. Erli said she and her husband will continue looking for opportunities for the students to do projects benefitting the community.
“These students love the chance to build something,” she said. “I believe they are even more thrilled when the items they make can be enjoyed by others.”
In general, the TechHOUNDS robotics team continues its training of new members, according to Ryan Wilmes, student lead and senior.
Wilmes said, “Overall, it looks like we have a lot of promising new members who want to get their hands dirty and are eager for the build season.”
