According to Sen Xiong, Hip Hop Club officer and junior, members of the club are creating dance crews for the annual dance crew competition, Carmel’s Best Dance Crew (CBDC), hosted by Global Giving. Hip Hop Club meets every Tuesday after school until 5 p.m. in the main lobby near the Dale E. Graham Auditorium.
“CBDC is a dance crew competition taking place in early May where different dance crews try to win by showing their own choreography to judges,” Xiong said. “At the end, there is usually a type of freestyle battling between the top two crews. This is a time when members from the club can show their talents and skills to the school.”
Currently, club members are finding other people and getting together to form dance crews where they create choreography to a music mix, according to Xiong.
Sponsor Lacey Grabek said she is looking forward to the fun and excitement CBDC brings. “There are a ton of participants at all different break dancing ability levels,” Grabek said. “I think the club members telling how much fun they have catches other people’s attention and brings them.”
Xiong added, “We (CBDC members) hope to continue to grow and reach out to people through hip hop.”
