As Thanksgiving break arrives with the growing flu season, the nurses in the health center are informing students about how to protect themselves. According to nurse coordinator Patty Antle, with the growing amount of sickness, it is important that students are aware of simple precautions that they should take.
Antle said, “To prevent colds and spread of disease during the break, students should wash their hands, stay away from sick people, get lots of rest, and stay warm.”
According to Antle, there is a list of Student Health Guidelines on the this school’s website if there are any questions.
Because of the growing number of sick students, the health center has been extremely busy. According to Antle, the health center has student assistants every period to assist them and lighten their workload. One of these students is senior Michaela Gabany. According to Gabany, with the current scheduling of classes, working in the health center is a convenient class.
Gabany said, “It’s like a free period to first help out the nurses with whatever they need and then do your homework and relax. It’s kind of like another study hall.”
According to Gabany, the student assistants’ tasks are usually quite simple, so it isn’t a difficult class to take. However, though many of their jobs are quite simple, Antle said the student assistants help the nurses a lot.
Antle said, “The student assistants really help out the clinic a lot with maintaining out supplies. They are really needed every day.”
